Chevrolet’s 2027 Corvette Grand Sport X is a hybrid powerhouse, delivering blistering acceleration and a thrilling driving experience. With a 0-60 mph time of just 2.4 seconds, it bests the last E-Ray we tested by 0.2 second.
The Grand Sport X’s performance is a result of its advanced hybrid powertrain. The 6.7-liter LS6 V-8 engine produces 535 hp and 520 lb-ft of torque, while the electric motor adds 186 hp, resulting in a total system power of 721 hp. This combination allows the car to complete a quarter-mile in 10.4 seconds at 129.2 mph.
Launch control has improved over that of the pre-refresh C8 Corvette, supplying consistency and precision. Its Tremec eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission features a new final drive ratio of 5.56:1, intended to improve off-the-line acceleration.
Handling and Braking Capabilities
Chevrolet has equipped the Grand Sport X with specially tuned MagneRide dampers and an electronically controlled limited-slip differential. It wears Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires, which provide impressive grip. The car’s figure-eight test track time of 23.0 seconds with an average g-vector of 0.93 showcases its handling prowess.

The Grand Sport X’s carbon-ceramic brakes offer solid stopping power, with a 60-0 mph braking distance of 103 feet, matching the E-Ray’s performance.
Comparisons to the ZR1X and E-Ray
While the Grand Sport X impresses, it falls short when compared to the top-level Corvette ZR1X. The ZR1X’s twin-turbocharged powertrain produces a staggering 1,250 hp, enabling it to complete a quarter-mile in just 9.2 seconds at 153.3 mph. The ZR1X also outperforms the Grand Sport X in figure-eight and skidpad tests.
Compared to the E-Ray, the Grand Sport X offers improved acceleration and power, but the E-Ray still holds an edge in handling and lateral acceleration. The E-Ray’s figure-eight time of 22.5 seconds at 0.95 g and its higher lateral acceleration of 1.10 g demonstrate its agility.
Daily Drivability and Usability
Despite its performance capabilities, the Grand Sport X maintains a level of daily drivability. Its hybrid system provides better fuel economy than traditional Corvettes, making it a more practical choice for everyday use. However, the front electric drive can numb the steering feel, and the powertrain can be jerky at startup.
