Renault aims to reintroduce a proper minivan, calling the new model the E-Space Concept. The automaker notes that its current Espace is an SUV, which does not match the design intent of the original. Renault wants to reboot the nameplate with a vehicle that resembles a large, friendly box designed to carry people and cargo.
The silhouette and size
The concept measures the same length as 4.7 meters as the Volkswagen ID.Buzz and the Kia PV5. It features a container-like silhouette with a ‘U’-shaped light design at the front and back. The concept also includes a roof spoiler, a chunky stance, and massive wheels.
Renault officials stated that “E-Space Concept is a future-focused vision of the original, true to the approach that has always set Renault apart: innovating for the benefit of people, human emotion and the in-car experience.”
The concept uses Renault’s E-Tech electric technology. This likely involves a large LFP battery, a motor, and fast DC charging. The system also includes AI features. The car is a concept, meaning it shows the design direction rather than serving as a production-ready vehicle.
Tone all of it down, stick it in a fetching shade of yellow, and you’re about there. “With E-Space Concept, Renault is rebooting the spirit of Renault Espace, a model first launched in 1984 that has left its mark on automotive history,” said Renault.
“More than 40 years on, E-Space Concept is a future-focused vision of the original, true to the approach that has always set Renault apart: innovating for the benefit of people, human emotion and the in-car experience.”
Whacking in an 3.5-litre V10 F1 block in the back and sending it around Magny-Cours is a possibility that enthusiasts are eager to see materialize.
