BMW unveils new 3 Series with hybrid engines - bmw hybrid
The eighth-generation 3 Series will go on sale in global markets from early 2027.

BMW has unveiled the eighth-generation 3 Series, codenamed G50, which will go on sale in global markets from early 2027. The car was previewed in April 2026 by the electric i3, and an Indian launch is considered likely.

The new 3 Series will be available in three petrol versions: the 318, the 320, and the M350 xDrive. The 318 and 320 have a 2.0-litre four-cylinder direct-injection turbo-petrol engine with a 48-volt mild-hybrid system and an 8-speed torque-converter automatic, with rear-wheel drive.

The 318 makes 156PS and 250Nm, taking 9.5 seconds to reach 100kph and topping out at 215kph. The 320 steps up to 211PS and 330Nm, with a 0-100kph time of 7.4 seconds and a 240kph top speed.

The M350 xDrive sits at the top of the range and keeps the 3.0-litre direct-injection turbo straight-six, but output rises to 426PS and 540Nm.

BMW claims 0-100kph in 4.1 seconds and a top speed of 250kph for the M350 xDrive. The company has said nothing yet about diesel versions, but has confirmed that a plug-in hybrid will join the line-up over the coming year.

The G50 measures 4,765 mm in length, 1,850 mm in width, and 1,455 mm in height, with a 2,860 mm wheelbase—making it larger than the previous G20. Its styling closely follows the i3, with classic sedan proportions and Neue Klasse cues such as retractable door handles, clean body surfacing, wide wraparound LED tail-lamps, and blacked-out front panels with illuminated surrounds, LED headlamps and angled daytime running lamps.

Inside, the cabin shares many elements with the i3, including a 17.9-inch rhomboidal touchscreen, a pillar-to-pillar Panoramic Vision display, and an unconventional four-spoke steering wheel. The M350 stands out with its M-specific steering wheel, M graphics on the Panoramic Vision display, and an all-black colour scheme.

Other equipment includes configurable ambient lighting, Amazon Alexa+ AI integration, powered and heated front seats, Level 2 ADAS, auto park assist, dual-zone climate control, connected-car technology, and a panoramic sunroof. Boot capacity is rated at 450 litres.
