EVgo and Brixmor Property Group are significantly expanding their strategic partnership through the installation of more than 500 additional DC fast charging stalls located at shopping centres across the United States. This full rollout is designed to introduce EVgo chargers to a minimum of 90 Brixmor properties. By targeting this extensive number of sites, the initiative will ultimately cover more than a quarter of the real estate company’s total portfolio, representing a substantial increase in the availability of fast charging infrastructure for the general public. The scale of this project shows the commitment from both organizations to advance the accessibility of electric vehicle infrastructure on a national level.
The geographical scope of this expansion includes the construction of new charging locations in six specific states: Florida, Illinois, Minnesota, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Texas. This selection spans diverse regions from the Midwest to the East Coast and the South. The companies have outlined a clear timeline for this deployment, with construction work scheduled to commence later this year. The very first site under the terms of this expanded agreement has been identified as Barn Plaza, which is located in the suburbs of Philadelphia. Establishing the first site in this location allows the partners to test and refine operations before the wider rollout begins, serving as the launch point for the project and paving the way for subsequent developments across the other targeted regions.

In terms of technical specifications, the companies have confirmed that these new locations will be equipped with robust power capabilities, featuring up to 12 high-power DC fast chargers at each individual site. The layout and design of these charging hubs are strategically focused on shopping centres that are anchored by grocery stores. This specific choice of location is deliberate, as it creates a highly practical scenario where drivers are able to charge their electric vehicles simultaneously during the time they typically spend completing their regular errands. EVgo emphasizes that this specific approach serves to integrate the charging process directly into existing, everyday travel routines, effectively removing the need for dedicated, separate trips to charge stations. By situating the technology where people already go, the companies aim to normalize the charging experience as a standard part of daily life.

This collaboration is not a new development but rather a deepening of a long-standing relationship between the two entities. The two companies have worked together since 2016, marking nearly a decade of cooperation. That year served as a key moment when EVgo installed its first fast charger at a Brixmor shopping centre in Pleasanton, California. That initial installation proved the viability of placing fast chargers in retail settings. The current agreement to add hundreds of stalls builds directly upon that foundational work, scaling the successful model established in California to meet the modern demands of electric vehicle adoption across a much wider geographic area.
