Italian police received a Lamborghini Temerario supercar on Tuesday, marking the latest addition to the nation’s high‑performance fleet.
Ceremony at the factory
The handover took place at the automaker’s plant in Sant’Agata Bolognese. Stephan Winkelmann, the company’s chairman and CEO, presented the V8‑hybrid vehicle to officials from the Italian State Police.
Interior minister Matteo Piantedosi and a delegation of officers attended, each eager to see the 920 hp two‑seat car that replaces the older Huracán model. The event coincided with the release of a new book chronicling Italy’s police‑vehicle history, a volume that traces the evolution of transport from early patrol wagons to today’s high‑tech machines.
The presentation also coincided with the launch of “I motori della Polizia,” a newly published volume that documents the evolution of Italy’s police fleet from early patrol wagons to today’s high‑tech supercars, and it features photographs of each Lamborghini model that has served the force.
It marks a bold step forward.
Performance and purpose
The Temerario can sprint from 0‑62 mph in 2.7 seconds and reach a top speed of 213 mph, thanks to a twin‑turbo 4.0‑litre engine paired with three electric motors. It also runs up to five miles on battery alone, a modest range for a supercar.
Despite these numbers, the police will not use the car for traffic enforcement. Instead, it will handle urgent missions such as organ transport and delivery of medical supplies, where speed and cargo space matter.
Its larger footprint compared with the Huracán adds interior room and a front trunk, or “frunk,” suitable for valuable equipment.
The Temerario’s configuration is notable for being the first mid‑engine Lamborghini equipped with a V8 since the Jalpa of the 1980s, showing a rare return to a chassis layout that blends classic Lamborghini heritage with modern hybrid technology.
Police Lamborghini lineage
Since 2004, the Lamborghini brand has supplied six models to the Italian State Police, beginning with a Gallardo. Subsequent versions included an updated Gallardo LP 560‑4 and the Huracán LP 610‑4 introduced in 2014.
More recently, an Urus high‑performance SUV joined the fleet, mirroring a trend seen elsewhere; the Dubai police added a 666 hp Urus Performante earlier this year. That Middle Eastern force has a history of acquiring high‑performance models for public‑relations duties. The arrival of the Temerario continues a tradition of using exotic cars for specialized public‑service roles.
